The Poon Hill Trek is one of Nepal’s most iconic short trekking experiences, offering a perfect introduction to the Himalayas. The highlight of the journey is the early morning hike to Poon Hill (3,210m), one of the most famous viewpoints in Nepal. From here, you’ll witness a spectacular sunrise illuminating the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain ranges, including peaks like Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Nilgiri.
Along the trail, you’ll pass through charming Gurung and Magar villages, walk through lush rhododendron forests, and experience authentic local hospitality in traditional teahouses. The route is well-established, safe, and suitable for trekkers of all fitness levels.

Itinerary

Day 1: Drive from Pokhara to Nayapul – Trek to Tikhedhunga (1,540m)

Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Pokhara to Nayapul, passing through beautiful countryside, rivers, and small settlements. This drive offers a peaceful introduction to the Annapurna region.

From Nayapul, your trek starts along gentle trails following the river and passing through small villages. The pace today is relaxed, allowing you to settle into the trekking rhythm while enjoying the surroundings.

You will cross suspension bridges decorated with prayer flags, walk through traditional settlements, and observe local life along the way.

By late afternoon, you arrive at Tikhedhunga, a quiet village surrounded by green hills.

Day 2: Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani (2,860m) via Ulleri

After breakfast, the day begins with the famous Ulleri stone steps. Although it is a steady climb, the journey is taken at a comfortable pace with plenty of rest stops to enjoy the views.

As you ascend higher, the landscape transforms into dense rhododendron forests. During spring, these forests bloom into vibrant colors, creating one of the most beautiful trekking environments in Nepal.

The trail continues gradually through forest paths and mountain scenery until you reach Ghorepani, a charming village offering panoramic Himalayan views.

Day 3: Sunrise at Poon Hill (3,210m) – Trek to Tadapani (2,630m)

Early in the morning, you hike to Poon Hill, the highlight of the trek.

As the sun rises, the Himalayan peaks are illuminated in golden light. You will witness breathtaking views of Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), and Dhaulagiri, creating an unforgettable moment.

After enjoying the sunrise, you return to Ghorepani for breakfast before continuing the trek toward Tadapani.

The trail passes through peaceful forests and scenic ridges, offering a calm and immersive experience in nature.

Day 4: Tadapani to Ghandruk (1,940m)

Today’s trek is shorter and more relaxed, focusing on cultural experience.

The trail descends through forests and leads to Ghandruk, one of the most beautiful villages in the Annapurna region. This traditional Gurung village offers stunning mountain views, stone houses, and a rich cultural atmosphere.

You can explore the village, interact with locals, and enjoy the peaceful environment.

Day 5: Ghandruk to Nayapul – Drive to Pokhara

Your final day is a gentle descent through terraced fields and small villages.

The walk is easy and allows you to enjoy the last moments of the trek while reflecting on your journey. After reaching Nayapul, you drive back to Pokhara where the trek concludes.
