About the tour

At Namaste Nomad, we take great pride in our work and are firm in the belief that we offer the best quality trek to Everest Base Camp. Our trek to Everest Base Camp is based on a holistic approach, with a particular focus on health, well-being, safety, a good diet, comfortable lodges, and the best sherpas and guides.

Our whole team is from the Himalayas with experienced climbers and sherpas, we can offer this trek for a highly competitive price from Ireland/Europe. We can do this because we have all the necessary connections, without using commission agents or middlemen.

We also offer a unique high-quality service. We give breathing lessons every day, offer simple yoga, and by paying close attention to diet, according to people’s health and requirements, we aim to keep people safe from food poisoning or any altitude-related issues. We do not allow alcohol at high altitudes, and we don’t serve any dairy
or meat on the way up to Base Camp. This is because all meat comes from Kathmandu and has to be carried in by porters, open to the air. We have seen too many people from other companies falling sick and getting helicopter rescue. Some companies benefit from this as the helicopter company gives them a commission.

For us, a successful trip is what matters. Our co-founder Mohan lives in Ireland – as an advocate of health and well-being and an experienced therapist, he makes client safety an absolute priority. Most of our sherpas have been to the top of Everest and our guides are all trained in first aid and hygiene. We aim to provide a decent living for our staff and their families and to give as many clients as possible the opportunity to experience the joy of trekking in such an amazing place.

What you get from this trek: Culture, adventure, nature, beautiful scenery, and the experience of a lifetime. Is this what you are looking for? Then come join us on our epic trip to Everest Base Camp. With its vibrant culture, bustling capital, and the best trekking in the world.

In this 18-day trip, you will trek for 12 to 13 days, through one of the lushest landscapes on earth, to a strikingly different world above the treeline where glistening peaks surround you. Trek with us to the base camp of Mount Everest at 5,380m (17,600 ft), with the chance of meeting climbers on either side of summiting. See for yourself the beauty of the majestic white peaks. Make your way into the stunning valleys over colourful prayer flags-laden suspension bridges. See and experience the vibrant Sherpa way of living. Trek through the beautiful scenery of Sagarmatha National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). And, finally, reach the base camp of the world’s highest mountain – Everest! Also included in this trip are four nights of staying in the bustling city of Kathmandu where you’ll visit world-famous Hindu and Buddhist temples, taste the wonderful Nepali cuisine, get the opportunity to meet with our charity partners, and experience traditional Nepali cultural performances. This is your opportunity to not only trek through the majestic mountains of Nepal with like-minded people but to discover a new and fascinating culture and way of life. This journey is more than just about trekking, it changes people’s perceptions, and their outlook on life and brings vibrancy and peacefulness to people’s lives on their return that no other trip can. The Nepalese people are very humble, grateful, and compassionate people, and being in their company is inspirational in itself.

This trip can be both physically and mentally challenging but with the assistance and expertise of our friendly staff, we can help you make your dream of trekking to Everest Base Camp,  Everest the highest mountain in the world, dream come true. Come join us and we promise to make this the most fulfilling experience you have ever had.

NOTE: You don’t need to be an experienced trekker or climber to do this trek, but a good level of fitness is required. All itineraries are different based on what date and group you join. Please read through your tour PDF before signing up.

Itinerary

Day 1:  Arrival in Nepal

Arrive in Nepal (or meet with us if you’re there already). Relax at the hotel, have a welcome meal & talk, and enjoy our first night in Kathmandu. ( Day one we count including departing from your country)

Day 2: Kathmandu

Let’s start by getting to know the city: we go on a sightseeing tour of bustling Kathmandu visiting Durbar Square, Hindu temples and shrines, Buddhist stupas, and of course do a bit of shopping, picking up any last-minute essentials for our trek. We end the day with an evening of traditional Nepali cuisine & culture.

Day 3: The Lukla Flight

We’re off to Everest! We fly on a twin-engine Otter to Lukla, with an incredible view of the Himalayas. At Lukla, we meet the rest of our staff, sherpas, and porters and have a short briefing. Now we start our Everest trek! And two and a half hours later, after a delightfully easy initial downhill trek, we arrive at Phakding, spending the night in our first teahouse/lodge close to the gushing Kosi river. Hiking distance: 4.5 miles

Day 4: Wake up in the Himalayas

We wake up in the Himalayas! We continue trekking along the banks of the Dudh Kosi, crossing this majestic river many times on exciting suspension bridges laden with prayer flags. After entering Sagarmatha National Park, the trail climbs steeply with breathtaking views to Namche Bazaar, the gateway to the Khumbu region. Elevation: 3,440 meters. Hiking distance: 6 miles

Day 5: Acclimatization

Today is a rest and acclimatization day in the beautiful Namche Bazaar. Namche is a unique horseshoe-shaped village (pictured above) with many wonderful and interesting shops and vendors, great food, and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. An early hike above town rewards us with a spectacular Himalayan sunrise and views of Mt. Everest. Elevation: 3,440 meters.

Day 6: Clean air

The trek continues along the rushing glacial waters of the Dudh Kosi with magnificent views of the mountains. We spend the night next to the Thyangboche monastery, the spiritual centre of the Khumbu region, and take the opportunity of visiting the monks and watch their singing meditations. Elevation: 3,860m

Day 7: Breaking a sweat

From Thyangboche, the trail drops to Debuche crosses another exciting suspension bridge on the Imja Khola and climbs to Pangboche past thousands of mani stones. Our uphill trek continues, taking us to the quaint traditional Sherpa village of Dingboche with its exquisite views of the high mountains, including Lhotse, Island Peak, and Ama Dablam. This is where all that training pays off! Elevation: 4,410 meters

Day 8: Dingboche

Today we take another rest and acclimatization day at Dingboche – a tiny village with a population of around 200. It’s here that Everest climbers sometimes come for medical attention. There is the option of taking a light hike up the valley for a wider variety of photos of the valley and mountains of the Khumbu region. Elevation: 4,410 meters

Day 9: Footsteps of the great

Today’s trail continues along the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier and passes by stone memorials for climbers who have perished on nearby summits. After a long and adrenaline-inducing trek, we arrive at the Eco-Lodge for hot showers and well-deserved warm meals. Elevation: 4,910 meters. Hiking distance: 5 miles

Day 10: Rise and shine

After an early morning start, we ascend Kala Pattar mountain (18,450 feet), from which we can enjoy unbelievable views of the Himalayas, without having to climb Everest! That evening we sleep beneath Kala Pattar at Gorak Shep. Elevation: 17,000 feet / 5,182 meters

Day 11: Everest

Today, after a relatively short but incredibly exciting trek, we reach our destination – Everest Base Camp! It’s located at the foot of the Khumbu Icefall, and we’ll spend some time there, giving you a chance maybe to meet some climbers and to thoroughly explore the area if the weather allows. We’ll return to Gorak Shep for the night. Elevation: 5,357 meters. Hiking distance: 2 miles

Day 12: Gorak Shep

In the morning we will enjoy tea and breakfast before our parting view of Everest and our descent. We head down the glacier and re-enter the lush and beautiful valleys,
surrounded by spectacular snow-capped peaks. Upon reaching the village of Pheriche, you may have the opportunity to visit the Himalayan Rescue Association’s Aid Post. Elevation: 4,252 meters. Hiking distance: 7.5 miles

Day 13: Descend

We continue back down the valley, below the tree line and through the rhododendron forest to Debuce, a quiet village with a Tibetan nunnery. Today will be a short hiking day with an afternoon to relax, shower, do laundry and prepare for the final day’s hiking. Elevation: 3,820 meters

Day 14: Namche

Today we trek back along the Dudh Kosi River through a magnificent rhododendron forest and past beautiful waterfalls. Shortly before reaching Namche, the trek takes us through a pine forest, where musk deer often graze in the early morning. Arriving in town, we may see lowland porters, highland Sherpas, and Tibetan people trading food and supplies at market time. We stay at the Hotel with hot showers and a comfortable bed. Elevation: 3,440 meters. Hiking distance: 10 miles.

Day 15: Celebrate!

Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla where we spend the night at the Khumbu Lodge. Hot showers are available and we have a celebratory night with the staff. Elevation: 2,840 meters.

Day 16: Back to the capital

If the weather is clear, the morning flight back to Kathmandu will be a scenic and smooth farewell to the mountains. We arrive in Kathmandu and we say goodbye to some of the staff. Elevation: 1,336 meters

Day 17: Shopping

Free day for activities of your choice: rest & relax / shopping/city tour. It is also possible to visit, for example, Nagarkot or Bhaktapur (the cost for this is not included
